NFL Week 1 Fantasy Football Takeaways: Biggest Winners, Breakouts and Players to Watch

NFL Week 1 is done and dusted, and there are already HUGE fantasy football takeaways.

Some players; confirmed what fantasy managers expected (hey Gibbs/Bijan), came out of nowhere, and then some were big names that had rough starts that aren't worth panicking over yet.

Here are the biggest NFL Week 1 fantasy football winners, breakouts and players to watch.

NFL Week 1 Fantasy Winners

Jahmyr Gibbs (most likely 1.01 in your league)

Gibbs was one of the biggest fantasy winners of Week 1, finishing with 186 total yards, two touchdowns and 34 touches, including 29 carries. 29 MF’ CARRIES. HE IS THE NUMERO UNO BACK FINALLY.

The biggest takeaway has to be that he firmly holds the keys in that background with Montgomery gone. Gibbs looks like one of the safest high-volume backs in fantasy, showing worthy of the 1.o1.

Derrick Henry

The King is somehow STILL doing it 😳

Henry dominated with 144 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries.

He's also averaging 29.1 fantasy points over his last four games dating back to 2025, making his Week 1 performance look more like a continuation than a fluke. Henry continues to defy the RB odds and seems like he is primed for another top-12 year as long as this offense stays healthy.

Bijan Robinson

Oh my sweet Bijan. Robinson finished with 173 total yards and a touchdown, while adding a career-high eight receptions. If the receiving game stays, Bijan looks set to compete for the #1 RB in fantasy by the end of the year, only battling Gibbs.

The receiving workload could be especially important with Cooper Rush at quarterback. Since no one knows what is goin’ on in Atlanta with their QBs, take Rush as a good sign for Bijan, but overall bad sign for Atlanta.

Josh Allen

Superman Allen delivered one of the biggest fantasy performances of the week against Houston with 334 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns. Truly a vintage performance from Josh Allen in all facets of the game and he is slowly creeping up on the total touchdowns in history EERILY fast 👀

Chris Olave

As long as this man stays healthy, the sky is the limit. Olave exploded for 10 catches, 182 yards and a touchdown, this set a career high in receiving yards.

Again, this is a healthy Olave, even though he went down a couple times in the game, he looked amazing and it will be a spectacle seeing him this season.

NFL Week 1 Fantasy Breakouts

Jalen Coker

insert name-related joke here
Coker caught 8 of 9 targets for 138 yards and two touchdowns, finishing with a 26.5% target share.

The target share was the most impressive considering that Tet McMillan plays besides him. There will most likely be some regression, but if he can grow in this role then he may be able to run away with a TOP target share outside of Tet.

Parker Washington

There was offseason buzz, then there was Parker Washington.

Washington finished with five catches for 83 yards and a touchdown and received more targets than Jakobi Meyers and Brian Thomas Jr. combined.

The touchdown was a thing of beauty with him leaping into the endzone. He has produced four of the five highest-scoring games of his last four games, which is a testament to him and TLaw’s relationship.

Antonio Williams

Williams made his debut with four catches for 64 yards and a touchdown.

Jayden Daniels posted a perfect 158.3 passer rating when targeting Williams, despite Williams running only 10 routes. This is obviously a small sample size, but Williams may be a hit (for now) and the Commanders can always use weapons on offense!

David Montgomery

Out of the darkness and into the RB1 light, Montgomery scored three touchdowns on 23 touches, finishing with 79 total yards.

He played only one more snap than Woody Marks but received 13 more touches, which is telling for where Houston wants to lead their offense through. Montgomery showed that he can be the RB1 and 3 TDs is no joke. He has high RB2/low RB1 written all over him this year for fantasy.

Fantasy Players You Shouldn't Sleep On

Dalton Kincaid

Kincaid caught 5 passes for 130 yards and led Buffalo in receiving yards. When healthy, he is efficient and can become a safety blanket for Allen.

Dallas Goedert

Goedert caught four passes for 77 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Eagles in catches, receiving yards and touchdowns.

He's also averaging 17.68 fantasy points over his last five games, challenging the top TE’s in fantasy like McBride.

Mike Gesicki

Gesicki saw seven targets, catching five for 78 yards and a touchdown.

He's now scored at least 12.5 fantasy points in three of his last six games, but it will be interesting once Chase and Higgens get some catches as well. It is unknown if his target share continues with an added focus on the should-be stars of the Bengals offense.

Don't Panic Yet

Ja'Marr Chase

Chase had a brutal Week 1 box score: 2 catches, 12 yards and 3.2 fantasy points.

But he still ran 35 routes. The bigger concern is that he saw only four targets. One bad game isn't enough to write him off, since last year dispelled any of those thoughts.

Puka Nacua

Nacua finished with five catches for 74 yards on nine targets and posted a massive 33.3% target share, but in general the Rams offense looked abysmal.

The production wasn't elite, but the involvement was.

Christian McCaffrey

McCaffrey had 15 touches, matching rookie Kaelon Black's total. Black played 44% of the snaps, while McCaffrey also received eight targets.

The workload split is something fantasy managers should monitor, but it's too early to panic. This may be a good spell for CMC to ensure his health.

Matthew Stafford

Stafford finished with just 4.1 fantasy points, throwing for 155 yards and an interception.

He was also pressured on 44% of his dropbacks, making the matchup and offensive environment worth watching before making any major fantasy decisions.

The Biggest NFL Week 1 Fantasy Football Takeaway

Don't overreact to the box score, or your fantasy team.

Workload matters.

Gibbs had 34 touches. Bijan had eight catches. Olave saw 10 targets. Kincaid led Buffalo in receiving yards. Puka commanded 33.3% of his team's targets.

Week 1 can create fantasy breakouts, but it can also create false alarms. The players getting consistent opportunities are the ones worth paying attention to heading into Week 2.
