UFC Serbia Main Event Preview: Medic vs Rodriguez
Uros ‘The Doctor’ (sick nickname btw) Medic and Daniel ‘D-Rod’ Rodriguez square off this weekend in a very interesting main-event fight at welterweight.
The case for Uros Medic: This is a man that ONLY wins by knocking people out, that is terrifying. He boasts a 100% finish rate and recently looked amazing against Geoff Neil at UFC Houston in February.
There is a lot to like about Medic and of course it starts with his hands where he has some real power in his combos. He is best when he is on the front foot and always looks to set the tone early. This is evident in a majority of his knockouts happening in the 1st round. He has the flash you look for in a striker and can mix up every level of the fight.
The case for D-Rod: A true grizzled veteran with 14 fights in the UFC, D-Rod has fought some of the welterweight’s best. Currently riding a 3-fight win streak, D-Rod is coming off his best win in Kevin Holland. In that fight he was a heavy underdog and made Holland look lost for a good portion of the fight. D-Rod has a way of nullifying opponent’s best weapons at times and it was on full display in his last fight.
Something’s gotta give: I would love to see this fight reach the 3/4/5 rounds because with Medic being so knockout-friendly and getting the job done early, it would be interesting to see how his output later in the fight. Daniel Rodriguez has proven that he can keep the pressure and output as the fight goes into those later rounds, but I am interested if Medic can continue his sniper-like accuracy if he has to deal with a difficult first 2 rounds that still has his opponent walking forward.
